Dan Corner writes: Those of us who live in the United States have often observed the open wickedness and injustice all around us. Consequently, some Christians in this country have entertained the idea that the USA is Babylon The Great. Two glaring problems have been overlooked by those who embrace this view:
(1) Jesus taught the following about prophets dying in Jerusalem:
In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day – for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem! (Luke 13:33)
The following characteristic of Babylon the Great parallels that truth. Rev 18:24 states:
In her was found the blood of prophets and of the saints, and of all who have been killed on the earth.
That is hardly a description of America’s history.
(2) Remember that the USA was discovered recently in 1492. Before that, God’s prophets were already being slain.
It appears that Jerusalem is Babylon the Great and the city which is referred to in Rev 18:10. Another less credible possibility is Rome because of all the Christians who were slain by her during the inquisitions and crusades. The real issue, though, is not the identity of Babylon the Great, but instead living holy now through the Lord Jesus Christ.
